In October, Nathan Benderson Park takes on a different kind of color. Along the water, where rowers cut clean lines through the lake and families gather beneath the Florida sun, pink becomes a quiet signal of solidarity: for those in treatment, for survivors whose stories continue, and for loved ones whose absence is still felt.
United in Pink at NBP brings Breast Cancer Awareness Month into one of Sarasota’s most visible community spaces. Rather than treating awareness as a single day on the calendar, Nathan Benderson Park is planning several initiatives throughout October, creating opportunities to honor the people whose lives have been shaped by breast cancer and to recognize the network of care surrounding them. The effort is at once public and personal—an invitation to pause, remember and stand with neighbors navigating diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
That sense of togetherness is especially fitting at Nathan Benderson Park. Built around a world-class rowing venue but embraced by the wider community as a place for walking, cycling, paddling, festivals and everyday connection, the park has become one of Sarasota’s most generous civic landscapes. Its broad paths and open views make room for moments both celebratory and reflective. Here, an awareness campaign can move beyond a ribbon or a slogan and become part of the ordinary rhythm of local life.
Breast cancer touches nearly every community, including Sarasota’s, through mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, colleagues and caregivers. Awareness months matter not only because they elevate conversations about screening and support, but because they give people a shared language for compassion. United in Pink offers that language in a setting where people already come together—to exercise, to watch competition, to enjoy the outdoors or simply to spend time near the water.
The park’s monthlong observance will culminate in United in Pink at NBP on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The event will take place at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle in Sarasota, as part of the park’s October initiatives honoring survivors, supporting those still fighting and remembering those who have been lost. Against the calm expanse of the lake, the gesture will be simple but resonant: a community gathering in pink, making room for hope, remembrance and the strength of standing together.
