On a November evening, when Sarasota’s gardens are at their most gracious and the air finally begins to soften, the city will gather beneath the palms for a cause that asks for both attention and action. The SPARCC Black Tie Gala brings the polish of a formal night out to the essential, often difficult work of Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center, the local organization serving survivors of sexual violence and child abuse.
SPARCC has long been part of Sarasota’s social-service landscape, offering crisis intervention, advocacy, therapy, prevention education, and a safe place for people navigating trauma. Its work is immediate and personal, but its reach is communal: supporting survivors, educating young people, and helping build a culture in which safety, consent, and accountability are not abstract ideals but shared responsibilities. A gala can feel removed from that daily work, yet fundraising events like this help sustain the advocates and programs people rely on in their most vulnerable moments.
The setting lends the evening a particular sense of place. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, on Sarasota’s bayfront, is more than a picturesque backdrop; it is one of the city’s cultural anchors, where horticulture, science, art, and public life meet among living collections and tropical beauty. At Selby, a formal gathering has room to feel celebratory without losing sight of the natural world just beyond the table: a reminder that care, like cultivation, requires patience, resources, and attention over time.
For guests, the Black Tie Gala offers an opportunity to dress for the occasion, share an elegant evening with fellow Sarasota residents, and stand behind an organization whose presence strengthens the wider community. The atmosphere may be festive, but the purpose is clear. Each ticket, conversation, and contribution helps SPARCC continue providing confidential support and expanding awareness around violence prevention—work that matters long after the last glass is raised.
The SPARCC Black Tie Gala takes place Friday, November 6, 2026, at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, 1534 Mound Street, Sarasota. Formalwear is the order of the evening, but the deeper invitation is to participate in a community choosing compassion, safety, and solidarity.
