In Sarasota, October has a way of turning the landscape pink—not only through ribbons and shirts, but through the gestures of recognition that bring neighbors together. At Nathan Benderson Park, “United in Pink at NBP” will offer a monthlong expression of solidarity with those whose lives have been shaped by breast cancer: survivors, people currently in treatment, families, caregivers, and loved ones carrying the memory of someone they have lost.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month can sometimes arrive as a familiar collection of symbols, but its meaning remains deeply personal. In a region with a strong network of health-care providers, nonprofit organizations, and community fundraisers, awareness is also an invitation to conversation: about screenings, support, research, early detection, and the emotional realities that continue long after treatment ends. By bringing that message to one of Sarasota’s most visible public spaces, Nathan Benderson Park connects a national observance to the daily life of the community.
The park, a 600-acre outdoor destination on the eastern edge of Sarasota, is best known for its world-class rowing venue and for the broad range of public events it hosts. Its trails, lakefront views, and open gathering spaces make it a natural setting for occasions that ask people to pause, reflect, and stand together. Here, a message of support can travel beyond a single room or organization, meeting visitors as they walk, exercise, attend an event, or simply take in the water and sky.
Throughout October, NBP will feature several initiatives in honor of breast cancer awareness. Together, they will create an opportunity for the community to acknowledge the many forms that courage can take—from undergoing treatment and offering care to preserving a loved one’s story and choosing, year after year, to keep showing up for one another. The emphasis is less on spectacle than on presence: making room for remembrance, encouragement, and hope in a place shared by Sarasota and its visitors.
United in Pink at NBP takes place throughout October, with a featured community moment on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle in Sarasota. It is an occasion to visit the park with intention and join a collective tribute that honors survivors, supports fighters, and remembers those who are no longer here.
