On a Sarasota evening, the waterfront has a way of becoming a stage. At Waterside Place, the lights along the lake will meet the bright spectacle of the circus when Sights + Sounds welcomes the Circus Arts Conservatory for an evening of daring, discipline and hometown tradition.
The performance will feature students from Sarasota’s Sailor Circus Academy, whose story is woven deeply into the city’s cultural identity. For 75 years, the academy has introduced young people to the circus arts, preserving a distinctly Sarasota form of live performance while teaching the concentration, collaboration and courage required beneath the big top. Their appearance at Waterside Place offers a glimpse of that legacy in motion: a new generation of performers spinning, balancing and reaching skyward with the theatrical flair that has long made Sarasota a destination for circus lovers.
Sights + Sounds is designed as a monthly celebration of the region’s creative life, with each installment bringing a different artistic group to the pavilion. The series moves across disciplines—live music, theater, orchestral performance and more—making the waterfront gathering an inviting way to encounter the breadth of local talent. This month’s program brings the visual drama of circus to the series, pairing athletic feats with the pleasure of an outdoor night in one of Sarasota’s newer gathering places.
The setting encourages lingering. Before or after the performance, visitors can browse the shops, settle in for dinner and take in the lakefront atmosphere at Waterside Place. It is the sort of occasion that turns an arts event into a shared community ritual: families watching the action, neighbors catching up, and longtime Sarasotans recognizing an institution whose influence reaches well beyond the ring.
Seating is limited, so guests may bring a lawn chair for a more comfortable view. Outside food and drinks are not permitted, though the surrounding shops and restaurants make it easy to build an entire evening around the performance. Sights + Sounds featuring The Circus Arts Conservatory takes place Friday, November 13, 2026, at the Waterside Place Pavilion, 1560 Lakefront Drive.
