In Sarasota, where small businesses, nonprofits, classrooms, and creative ventures often overlap, knowing how to make sense of a spreadsheet is more than an office skill—it is a form of fluency. For those ready to move beyond basic formulas and tidy tables, State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota is offering an advanced, hands-on Excel class designed to turn familiar tools into sharper, more useful instruments.

Excel Level 3 builds on the practical foundation established in the course’s earlier levels. Participants will work with custom and conditional formatting, techniques that can make dense information easier to read and important trends harder to miss. The class also covers ranges and VLOOKUP, one of Excel’s most useful functions for connecting related sets of data, along with date and time functions, chart creation, and workbook management.

That combination has clear relevance in a region where data quietly supports so much of daily life. A local arts organization tracking donors, a restaurant monitoring costs, a business reviewing sales, or a community group managing volunteers may all rely on spreadsheets long before they invest in specialized software. Advanced Excel skills can make those responsibilities less cumbersome and more precise, giving users greater confidence in the numbers behind their decisions.

The course is part of SCF’s broader role as a place for continuing education and professional development across the Sarasota-Manatee region. State colleges serve not only recent high school graduates and degree-seeking students, but also working adults and lifelong learners looking to refresh their skills, change direction, or gain an edge in an increasingly digital workplace. A hands-on format is especially valuable here: rather than simply watching demonstrations, students can practice techniques and develop a more intuitive understanding of how the program works.

Because this is an advanced class, registration comes with a prerequisite: participants must have completed Excel Level 2 and have a working knowledge of tables and filtering. The Excel Level 3 hands-on class takes place Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota. Those who meet the requirements can register through SCF’s event listing.
