In Sarasota, where creative work, small-business energy and community projects often overlap, the spreadsheet can be as consequential as the sketchbook or the rehearsal room. Budgets, schedules, attendance records, grant reports and inventories all depend on someone knowing how to turn a collection of numbers into useful information. For those ready to move beyond the basics, State College of Florida’s upcoming Excel Level 2 hands-on class offers a practical next step.

Designed for participants who already use Excel regularly and understand formulas, the course focuses on the tools that make the program genuinely powerful in everyday work. Students will explore advanced formulas and functions—including financial, logical, and date-and-time applications—while learning how relative and absolute references can make complex worksheets more accurate and efficient.

The class also moves into the kind of multi-layered tasks that arise in real offices and organizations. Participants will work across multiple worksheets, use 3D formulas and references, and build and manage tables with total rows. Sorting, filtering, data validation and subtotaling are also part of the curriculum, giving students a stronger command of how to organize, check and interpret information.

That practical emphasis matters in a region where nonprofit organizations, independent businesses, cultural institutions and civic groups frequently ask small teams to do a great deal with limited resources. A more confident command of Excel can reduce repetitive work, clarify decision-making and help turn raw data into something legible—whether the task involves tracking program participation, comparing expenses or preparing a forecast. The hands-on format is especially suited to learners who want to practice techniques rather than simply hear about them.

The course is offered through SCF, an institution with a longstanding role in expanding educational opportunity across the Sarasota-Manatee region. Its continuing education programming reflects the reality that learning does not end with a degree; professional tools change, and local residents often need accessible ways to keep pace.

Excel Level 2 requires completion of Excel Level 1 and/or a working knowledge of Excel, so students can begin with a shared foundation and concentrate on more advanced applications. The class takes place Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at State College of Florida. Registration is available through the event listing for Excel Level 2 Hands-On Classes at SCF.
