In October, Nathan Benderson Park takes on a different kind of brightness. Along the water, where rowing shells usually cut clean lines through the course and families gather beneath Florida’s wide sky, pink becomes a visible language of solidarity—honoring those who have survived breast cancer, standing beside those in treatment, and remembering the people no longer here.

United in Pink at NBP brings that spirit to the park throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Rather than treating awareness as a single day on the calendar, the initiative creates space for the Sarasota-Bradenton community to recognize the many personal stories behind the statistics. For some, the month is an opportunity to celebrate a clean bill of health. For others, it is a gesture of support for a friend, a parent, a partner, or a colleague facing an uncertain road. And for many, it is a time to carry grief and gratitude at once.

That communal quality feels especially at home at Nathan Benderson Park. The 600-acre venue has become one of the region’s most recognizable gathering places, hosting world-class rowing competitions alongside festivals, fitness activities, recreation, and everyday moments outdoors. Its broad paths and open lawns offer a natural setting for reflection as well as connection—a place where a cause can be shared publicly without losing its intimate, human meaning.

The park’s October initiatives invite visitors to participate in that collective expression of care. The color pink, familiar during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, takes on added resonance beside the park’s water: a simple visual reminder that support can be active, ongoing, and shared. Whether visitors arrive with a survivor, in memory of someone they love, or simply with a desire to stand with neighbors, the occasion connects personal experience to a wider Sarasota community.

United in Pink is also a reminder that awareness extends beyond ribbons and seasonal displays. It can mean making room for difficult conversations, offering encouragement, recognizing the importance of screening and care, and ensuring that no one navigating breast cancer feels invisible. At Nathan Benderson Park, those values meet in a setting built for gathering—open, welcoming, and distinctly local.

United in Pink at NBP takes place Friday, October 9, 2026, at Nathan Benderson Park, with additional initiatives continuing throughout October. As the month unfolds, the park offers Sarasota a meaningful way to come together in pink: to honor survivors, support fighters, and remember loved ones.
