On a Saturday morning in October, Sarasota’s sidewalks will become a moving expression of generosity. Families, friends, colleagues and neighbors will gather for the 2026 Walk for Wishes, turning a simple community walk into something more profound: a collective promise to children living with critical illnesses that their dreams still matter.
Walk for Wishes is the signature nationwide fundraiser of Make-A-Wish, the organization known for granting life-changing wishes to children facing serious medical conditions. Those wishes can take many forms—a trip, a meeting with a hero, a special experience, or something as personal as a transformed bedroom—but their impact often reaches beyond the child. Families and medical professionals frequently describe the wish experience as a source of hope, strength and emotional renewal during an unimaginably difficult chapter.
That sense of shared purpose feels particularly at home in Sarasota, where philanthropy is woven into the region’s cultural and civic life. The city’s long tradition of supporting the arts, health care, education and social services has created a community accustomed to showing up—not only with checks, but with time, attention and wholehearted participation. A walk offers an accessible way to join that tradition. It welcomes serious runners and leisurely strollers alike, as well as grandparents, children and anyone who believes that a little public joy can have a measurable effect.
There is also something fitting about the event’s outdoor format. Sarasota’s October mornings often invite people outside, when the worst of summer’s heat has begun to loosen its grip and the season’s familiar rhythms return. Participants will have the chance to move through the city together while raising funds that help Make-A-Wish transform anticipation into possibility for children and their families.
The 2026 Walk for Wishes takes place Saturday, October 3, in Sarasota. Organizers will announce the event venue and additional participation details as the date approaches; prospective walkers and supporters can look to Make-A-Wish for registration information, fundraising resources and updates. For one morning, the distance covered will matter less than the reason for taking the first step: helping a child imagine—and experience—a brighter horizon.
