In Sarasota, where the morning light can turn a lake into a sheet of silver, a walk or run can become something larger than exercise. Centerstone’s annual Life;Story 5K/10K brings neighbors together around a simple but urgent message: every life has value, and suicide can be prevented.
Now in its 23rd year, the event offers a meaningful way to support suicide prevention while moving through the outdoors. Participants can choose the 5K or 10K distance, running or walking a scenic route around the lake and back. The course is accessible in spirit as well as distance, inviting seasoned runners, families, friends, and anyone who wants to show up for a cause that touches communities everywhere.
The semicolon in Life;Story carries its own quiet significance. In writing, it marks a pause rather than an ending — a fitting symbol for people who have endured crisis, for families shaped by loss, and for the possibility of another chapter. The event creates room for all three: remembrance, conversation, and hope.
Centerstone, a nonprofit provider of mental health and substance use disorder services, has long worked across Florida and beyond to connect people with care and support. Its Life;Story event extends that work into the community, transforming a difficult subject into a shared act of solidarity. For Sarasota, a place with a strong tradition of gathering around wellness, service, and the natural landscape, the morning offers a particularly tangible reminder that prevention depends not only on professional resources, but also on attention, compassion, and connection.
Whether participants arrive with a team, in memory of someone they have lost, or simply ready to take the next step alongside their neighbors, the event’s purpose is both personal and collective. Each mile becomes a visible statement that stories can continue and that no one should have to face a crisis alone.
Centerstone’s 23rd Annual Life;Story 5K/10K Run and Walk for Suicide Prevention takes place Saturday, September 19, 2026, following its scenic lake route in Sarasota. Registration and additional event information are available through Centerstone.
