In Sarasota, where the Gulf is both horizon and habit, the ocean can be easy to take for granted. A morning on the bay, a pelican lifting from the shallows, the steady rhythm of tides beneath the causeways: these familiar pleasures are also reminders of a living system that asks for attention. Mote SEA Yoga Flow offers a chance to slow down long enough to feel that connection.

Presented by Samskara Yoga inside the Mote Science Education Aquarium, the all-levels class pairs gentle movement with the atmosphere of an institution devoted to understanding and protecting marine life. Rather than treating yoga as an escape from the world, “SEArenity Flow” frames practice as a way back into it—through breath, balance and a heightened awareness of the ocean and the living communities it supports.

The setting gives the gathering a particular resonance. Mote has long been part of Sarasota’s civic and scientific identity, linking research with public education and inviting visitors to see marine conservation as something immediate rather than abstract. Its science education aquarium extends that mission into an accessible, immersive environment, where the wonder of marine life can lead naturally to curiosity, care and action. A yoga class held within that context offers a quieter form of engagement, one that begins with the body and widens outward.

Participants can expect mindful movement, breathwork and relaxation, with options suited to a range of experience levels. The pace is designed for presence rather than performance: a thoughtful sequence, a settled breath, and perhaps a renewed awareness of how much of Sarasota’s character is shaped by water. For longtime practitioners, it is an opportunity to place a familiar discipline in an unusual and inspiring environment. For newcomers, the aquarium may make the experience feel less like entering a studio and more like entering a conversation with the natural world.

Mote SEA Yoga Flow takes place Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Mote Science Education Aquarium, 225 University Town Center Drive in Sarasota. With Samskara Yoga guiding the practice and Mote’s marine-world setting providing the atmosphere, the evening offers a restorative way to consider the waters that surround—and sustain—this community.
